Teeth Whitening FAQ

How does whitening work?

It works by having a scan of your teeth and getting bespoke trays made for your teeth. The gel is provided that contains a safe percentage of hydrogen peroxide that breaks down and oxidizes the tooth structures by lightening the colour without affecting the structure of the tooth.

The In-Surgery whitening is done in the surgery and this whitens further and seals the colour of your teeth with instant final results that are shown to you on the day of your treatment.

The whitening process depends on the starting colour of your teeth, diet, age and lifestyle

In general, this process takes two to four weeks to complete to provide you with a guarantee a B1 shade.

If you change your diet by reducing the frequency of tea, coffee, red wine and smoking than your teeth remain white.

We advise you top up with gels occasionally to help maintain a brilliant smile.

We also advise you see our hygienist to keep the teeth clean once or twice a year.

Tooth whitening is a safe, painless procedure when carried out by a trained dental professional. Some people experience some kind of sensitivity, some do not. This experience should be temporary and if done the right way you will find this to very minimal.

We provide a free consultation to discuss this, we advise you have a dental exam to ensure the health of your teeth comes first.

It is also important to know that existing fillings, veneers, crowns, bridges will not whiten with a gel and may need to be replaced post-whitening.
